Innovation Management

Course Introduction

Course Objective

Innovation is increasingly the source of sustainable competitive advantage for organisations around the world. However, building an organisation to successfully and repeatedly turn innovations to reality is a daunting managerial challenge. Whether in the public or private sector, organisations progressively need people that understand the innovation process and know how to manage creative professionals. Furthermore, it is also important to develop an organisational culture and climate that fosters innovation. This course focuses on creativity and innovation, examining the interplay between creativity, organisational processes and systems, and successful innovation. Throughout the course we explore tools and techniques for fostering individual and group innovation. We also look at management practices that foster (or inhibit) innovation, including methods for developing and evaluating ideas for new products and services. We also introduce principles and practices for managing innovation that will ultimately lead to new business models.
